CITY OF ROCHESTER UPDATES
Rochester Police Department (RPD) - Jay Blanchard
Memorial Day operations plan will be same as last year with a strong police presence for the
weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) with coverage from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm pending
good weather.
Fire Department had personal vehicle break ins and RPD had police vehicles broken into on
Dewey Ave. recently.
Remember: Tax time is scam time. No police or fire department will solicit by phone. Do not give
personal information out or purchase gift cards for anyone soliciting by phone. IRS will never
contact you by phone so, if you do get a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, do not
respond. Safest thing you can do is SAY NOTHING and report the incident to local authorities.
The next PCIC zoom meeting has been changed to Tuesday, 5/20 at 7:15 (Police Citizen
Interactive Community). This is a monthly meeting where police discuss crime in our area.
Everyone is welcome to attend. Link has been sent out.
Rochester Fire Department (RFD) Engine 19- Steve Dumara
Engine 19 boat has had five runs and several staff members are going through training. A new
fire engine will be arriving soon. They put out a couple of trash can fires caused perhaps by
careless discards.
Northwest Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) - Anna Keller
Anna mentioned that the NSC is working very closely with RPD and CCA to improve issues on
Stonewood that Carl and other neighbors have been asking for help with. You are still
encouraged to call 311 if you see parking or other violations happening.
‘Report It’ app is being used to send anonymous tips which have led to arrests at drug houses
and with other criminal activity. The data gets sent directly to NSC and is very private. Anna will
provide details for publication explaining how we can all access this app.
Anna talked about the homeless situation in our area. There was recently someone living in
some shrubbery near the bridge on Pattonwood. The NSC will reach out and try to relocate the
individual. If they do not cooperate they will be given a deadline to vacate the area. Please let her know if you do see anyone who might benefit from the resources her organization can
provide. You can also call 911 if you see someone panhandling.
City Council NW Representative - Bridget Monroe
NEIGHBORHOOD UPDATES/COMMUNITY CONCERNS
Clean sweep took place last Saturday and there was a very large group that participated.
The River St. realignment is currently on hold- Everything will need to be reviewed from scratch.
Jose has spoken with City staff about this.
CYAA received some money to improve fields. Work may not begin until next year.
Water Mark Nursing Home parking lot was purchased by someone recently. The nursing home
remains up for sale.
Bridget is proposing that $100,000 be used to develop a pilot Miyawaki forest at 354 Driving
Park Ave. This will bring residential neighborhoods together and create an environmentally
healthy area that will provide a positive influence for all to enjoy while supporting sustainability
and climate change. City Council still needs to approve and need RFP requests to be
completed.
Ontario Beach Park Planning Committee
Fred Amato shared that the lighthouse opened last weekend. The OBPPC was invited to
Genesee Country Museum to share with visitors there all the fun events and activities Charlotte
has planned throughout the year. They’ll be going back again on 7/12 to advertise and provide
literature. This Friday is the Light House Day of Caring. A group of volunteers will be helping to
clean the lighthouse including the garage since they are losing storage area.
5/11-5/13 - Will be distributing literature at the Lilac Festival at Highland Park.
When signing into our next general meeting, please remember to pick up a “Concert By The
Shore” Schedule and a 2025 Events Line Up schedule at our next meeting.

Genesee River and lake.
