APRIL 7, 2025 · ROGER ROBACH COMMUNITY CENTER

Welcome and Call to Order: CCA Board of Directors: Jose Peo, President; Tom Bruce, Vice President; Sue Hyde, Secretary; Rose Mary Shaw, Treasurer; Tony Micciche, Director; John Kabrovski, Director; Jon Cahill; Director; and about 18 others.

CITY OF ROCHESTER UPDATES

Rochester Police Department (RPD) - Jay Blanchard

Memorial Day operations plan will be same as last year with a strong police presence for the weekend.

34 tickets were issued at a recent traffic detail on Lake Ave. near the cemetery. Please protect officers by not sharing their whereabouts on social media when they are on patrol.

There will be a PCIC zoom meeting on April 16th (Police Citizen Interactive Community). This is a monthly meeting where police discuss crime in our area. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Rochester Fire Department (RFD) Engine 19- Captain Scott Daly

The boat is in the water. The number of water responses seem to be going up each year. Construction continues at Durand Beach with a beach house and stairs to the beach underway. The Department is busy inspecting hydrants and doing building inspections. There will be 4 retirements soon at the station including Captain Daly. We thank you all for your many years of service and congratulations on your retirements.

Northwest Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) - Anna Keller

Anna introduced Elyssa Rossi, the new street liaison working with businesses in the south east quadrant coalition. Her job is to facilitate community needs including grants. The CCA applied for a grant for signage and community branding so Jose asked for follow-up on that. Anna indicated there should be some results available next Thursday on the status of approval. Stay tuned…

City Council NW Representative - Bridget Monroe

Bridget Monroe was unable to attend the meeting but was kind enough to provide an update:

The Council approved Bob Youst’s lease of the The Jetty at the Port Terminal and he plans to keep it open year round.

The City School District approved moving forward with school bus arm cameras that will photograph license plates of vehicles passing buses with flashing lights and stop sign extended. There will be a public awareness campaign before implementation; hopefully Sept. 2025 even though passing these busses is already illegal. Many of the suburban busses already have these cameras as the county passed legislation in 2022. During the first month of Buffalo’s program, 2200 tickets were issued.

The Administration is still working on land negotiations for the River St. realignment and there is no news on the redevelopment of 4752 Lake Ave. The Department of Neighborhood and Business Development (NBD) is still in discussion with the developer, however.

Lastly, Bridget would like the Beautification Committee to tell her what plantings/gardens it maintains so she can push for the City to keep up with the spaces and planters it is responsible for.

NEIGHBORHOOD UPDATES/COMMUNITY CONCERNS

Henry Szuchman from Assemblywoman, Sarah Clark’s office introduced himself to the community. Sarah is busy in Albany but Henry is always available to link anyone to any State Agency that they are interested in communicating with. He is the Constituent and Community Liaison for her office. He can be reached at 585-467-0410.

Ontario Beach Park Planning Committee

Fred Amato shared that the lighthouse has been busy with volunteer and board members going through training. 2 bus tours will be traveling from Buffalo and Medina to tour the lighthouse in September. Last Saturday they were invited to an event at Monette Hall where they had a table and handed out information regarding events happening at the beach this summer including free jazz concerts at Tropix and Wegman’s concerts at the shore.

BOARD REPORTS

President’s Report- Jose will be focused on cleaning up Turning Point Park, which he’s done in previous years, during the clean sweep event this year. If anyone would like to join him, please do.

Secretary’s Report- Sue Hyde will be picking up Jon Cahill’s responsibilities as Secretary of the Board. This will allow Jon more time to work on advertising and communications for the CCA, host the monthly Events Planning meetings and continue to effectively manage his business. Thank you, Jon, for the nice job you’ve done.

Treasurer’s Report- Rose Mary collected $65 in membership dues in March. We also received $2,250 from the City (thank you, Bridget). We paid our insurance premium for the year and $196 was spent on technology upgrades/repairs. Ending balance is $16,622.22.

COMMITTEE REPORTS/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Beautification - Rose Mary reported that the CCA is supplied with flowers from the County and City in May along with mulch. The plan is to create a new flower bed around the sails near the pier. We are looking for volunteers to help take care of the flower beds this summer. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Rose Mary or another board member.

Communications- Still looking for a Communication Director.

Youth Engagement- Tom Bruce is working with school 42 and Holy Cross School and will try to get the students involved with Spring cleanup/planting.

Programming - First Thursday monthly Planning Meetings 6 pm at Vine and Tap. Easter egg hunt for all ages. Saturday April 19, 2025 1p.m. Free to adults and children. Brunch with Easter bunny at Vine and Tap for $15/adult. Adult food and drink coupons donated by Titus Tavern, O’loughlin’s, and other local businesses.
