CITY OF ROCHESTER UPDATES

Rochester Police Department (RPD) - Officer Jay Blanchard - NW Neighborhood Service Center

Officer Blanchard reported that there will be a PCIC zoom meeting on April 15th at 7 pm for all residents in the NW quadrant. This is a forum for residents to interact with the RPD captain.

Reminder: May 2nd is Clean Sweep. Those interested in participating are encouraged to meet at ESl Ballpark from 8am-12pm. Register at cityfrochester.gov/cleansweep or call 311. Participants will receive T-shirt, coffee, muffins and danish, game ticket to that days game at 1:05 pm with a voucher for hot dog and drink.

Memorial Day weekend at Ontario Beach Park will feature a strong police presence. Details will include state troopers as well.

Residents have noticed some flower pots pushed over or damaged. NW Service Center is looking into repairs or replacements where needed.

A resident asked if there are any new ideas to control unruly motorcycles and dirt bikes at the beach as summer approaches. RPD is running joint details to minimize unruly and unlicensed vehicles, but the use of drone surveillance is restricted based on height and location. RPD does use drones for big events and festivals. Monroe County may be restricting the use of e-bikes in the park this summer, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Rochester Fire Department (RFD) Engine 19 - Steve

There was a 19 minute response time for the fire fighters to rescue and save a gentleman who fell off the Charlotte pier during the Polar Plunge event in February. A young girl saw the incident and contacted Dept. 19. It appears that the pier was icy and the gentleman slipped in while walking along it.

The RFD will offer outdoor training for drivers to drive those needing transport in small 4 wheel vehicles around large events.

The RFD can pump out flooded basements in emergency situations as long as the water is clean; not sewage or rainwater may be flushed out. Call 311 or 911 if you need emergency help.

A resident mentioned that a neighbors fire pit was an annoyance due to smokey conditions impacting her quality of life. It was recommended that she check city rules and constraints regarding outdoor fire pits. Or call 911 or 311 and the Fire Department will respond.

Northwest Neighborhood Service Center (NSC) - Anna Keller

Clean Sweep is coming up and if you have a captain to lead a project she will provide volunteers and tools and equipment. Leaf cleanup is going well. Contact Anna at 428-7620 for any concerns.

She is in the process of repairing or replacing three pots that have been reported damaged.

Kim’s cuts is being taken over by a new owner named Paul. The name of the business will be changed soon but Kim is still working in the shop.

A new owner will be moving into Two Paison’s Pizzaria within the next month or so.

Pontillo’s is experiencing some issues but she is working with them to get those resolved.

City Council NW Representative - Bridget Monroe
The 5 year renewal of F3 Marina Company that manages the marina has taken place. The company received 18% of gross earnings for managing the marina for the city.

If you need leaf pickup, please call Bridget or 311.

City is in the process of reviewing digital advertising signs for compliance.

The secret sidewalk is city property so she will have the sidewalk inspected for improving and repairing sections that might have recently deteriorated.

Potholes at the corner of Lake Ave and Stonewood seem to need constant repair. Thank you, Kim, for calling the pothole repair number and trying to keep the potholes repaired.

Lake Ave. and Cherry Rd. Intersection may need to have drainage repaired because a pond is constantly forming there with continuous rainfall. Bridget will check into it.

The lighthouse will open for the season on May 1st- November 1st. 1pm -5 pm.

Water in the basement of the lighthouse created a 3” and a 5” flooding event during the heavy rains this Spring due to a clogged manhole drain. The City cleaned and repaired the drain.

There will be training for anyone wishing to volunteer to work at the lighthouse on 04/21 and 04/25. If interested, please contact Fred Amato.

President’s Report

Easter egg hunt was a great success with over 500 people including kids and adults attending and participating in the hunt. Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors and businesses who donated prizes, baskets and other Easter delights. It was great seeing all the happy faces even though the weather was a bit on the brisk side. Next year we have some great ideas for making the event more organized and fun.

Jose met with Jim Farr and is hoping to put together a Volley Ball Tournament and Pickle Ball Tournament at the Beach this summer.

City has been asked to remove snowflakes. CCA has storage for snowflakes at Roger Robach Center.

Vice President’s Report

No report.

Secretary’s Report

Sue shared that there have been some instances at the Lake Ave post office where checks have been stolen from the blue box and discarded or washed (scam artists attempt to change the amount to a much larger number and cash the check robbing the individual of hundreds/thousands of dollars). The Post office attendant even admitted that the blue box has been unbolted and stolen on more than one occasion. Please be safe when using that post office and walk your mail into the mail slot.

Treasurer’s Report

CCA balance as of 03/31/2026 was $22,899.16.
